Cross Country News!
On Saturday, September 3rd our Cross Country teams kicked off the season at Lake Afton in the Bishop Carroll Invitational. There were over 15 High School and Middle School teams competing.
Freshman Jared Herndon was our top Sunrise finisher in the Varsity Boys race, finishing in a very respectable time of 20:17 in his first ever 5k race!
In the Varsity Girls race, Freshman Kaitlyn Lumbert led the way for Sunrise, also running well in her first ever 5k race, and finished in a time of 25:03!
On Thursday, September 8th our High School Cross Country team competed in the Hesston Invitational. There were over 30 schools competing. Despite pouring rain, and an extremely muddy course, Sunrise still managed to run very well and earn 3 medals!
Jared Herndon placed 7th out of 63 runners in the Freshman Boys 1-3A race! Isaiah Krumme was not far behind, also earning a medal and finishing in 12th place in the same race!
Kaitlyn Lumbert ran very well in the Freshman Girls 1-3A race, and despite losing a shoe, still earned a medal, finishing in 12th place overall out of 43 runners!
On Saturday, September 17 our High School Cross Country team competed in the Southeast Invitational at Cessna Activity Center. There were over fifteen 4-6A schools in attendance, making it one of our most competitive meets of the season. Freshman Jared Herndon earned a medal by placing 23rd out of 146 runners in the JV Boys race! He also set a new personal record in the 5k race of 19:51! Freshman Kaitlyn Lumbert led the way for Sunrise in the JV Girls Race, and set a new personal record of 24:07 (5k), just barely missing a medal by finishing in 26th place overall! Freshman Dayson Trout also had a very good run, setting a new personal record by over 30 seconds in his 5k race!
On Thursday, September 22
The High School Cross Country team competed in the Oxford Invitational at the Winfield Veterans Home. Other schools competing were Winfield, Wellington, Caldwell, Clearwater, Douglas, Elk Valley, Cheney, Udall, West Elk, Oxford, Belle Plaine, Eureka, Wellington Christian, Classical School of Wichita, and Wichita Warriors.
Freshman Kaitlyn Lumbert led the way for Sunrise in the Varsity girls 5k race, finishing in 2nd place overall with a personal record time of 23:35! Junior Elise Trout was also able to earn a medal in the Varisity girls race by finishing in 19th place!
In the Varisty Boys 5k race, Freshman Jared Herndon led the way by finishing in 5th place with a new personal best of 19:43! Freshman Andrew Keck also set a new personal best and earned a medal, finishing in 23rd place overall!
On Saturday, September 24 our High School Cross Country Team competed at the Rimrock Classic in Lawrence. There were over 30 schools in attendance from all over the state and surrounding area. Although we had many solid performances, Freshman Kaitlyn Lumbert was the only Sunrise competitor that earned a medal- she placed 10th out of 134 runners in her race! Freshman Jared Herndon was the top finisher for our boys team, as he finished 39th place out of 200 runners!
