Cheerleading

Philosophy

I Thessalonians 5:11: “Therefore, encourage one another, and build up one another, just as you also are doing.”

We Lift One Another UP is more than just a saying or title; it the mission of Sunrise cheerleading.  We believe it is our job to be ambassadors for our school and for the Lord Jesus Christ, as we encourage excellent play and sportsmanship.  It is our mission to uplift the student body, fans, parents, players and coaches while cheering on our Buffaloes to a victorious season!!

Commitment

Fall cheerleaders cheer for home boy’s soccer games and all football games.  They also sponsor a summer junior high cheer camp and fall elementary cheer camp.  Practices are once per week during the school year, after school on Wednesdays. Select cheerleaders continue on to cheer for boys and girls varsity basketball.

Tryouts/Summer Commitment

Tryouts are held every year in May, preceded by tryout clinics. Current Sunrise 8th through 11th grade girls have the opportunity to tryout for the following year of high school.  A written testimony of their personal relationship with Jesus is also required.  Selection is made before the end of the school year. Cheerleaders commit to attending a summer camp with the squad.  Practices are 2-3 times weekly throughout the summer.

Mascot

We have a buffalo mascot costume that selected students, current Sunrise 10th – 12th grade, can wear for football and some basketball games.  Tryouts are not held but there are requirements to be met and an application process in order to be selected for the following year.

School colors are maroon, black and white; mascot, Buffaloes.

Cheer Sponsor since 2007 is Mrs. Meighan Keely
