Mrs. Primm’s Kindergarten Class

May 2012

Bible:  Throughout our last month in kindergarten we will end the year discussing Johan & repentance, John & Jesus fulfilling prophecy, John the Baptist, John baptizes Jesus, the Trinity, and Behold the Lamb of God.  Our new Bible curriculum has been a wonderful blessing & asset to our program.  The kids have learned so much and I’ve seen a lot of spiritual growth.

Phonics: As we conclude the year we will continue working on letters & sounds, blends, special sounds, compound words, root words, and suffixes.  We will also learn more about sentence structure, possessives, and punctuation marks.

Reading:  It is so much fun to read!!  Our reading comprehension, fluency, and expression are getting great! All three reading groups will end the year in our advanced readers.

Writing: We will continue reviewing our lowercase and capital letters working on letter formation and size.

Cursive: As the year ends we will work more on connecting letters, words, sentences, first & last names.

Math:  Practice, practice, practice… We will be working on the following concepts throughout the month of May:

Addition, subtraction, time, fractions, tally marks, story problems, #’s before & after, adding money, counting by 5’s, 10’s, & 2’s

Unit Study: The first week in May we will be studying pets in God’s world.  We will focus on fish, cats, and dogs.  The second week in May we will read stories and discuss summertime and graduation.  Our final week in kindergarten we will have fun with bubbles & ice cream, sandbox toys & popsicles, and sidewalk chalk & candy necklaces!

**What a wonderful year this has been!!! Thank you to all the parents who have helped me so much this year!  This is a bittersweet time of the year. I will miss the kids tremendously when we end the year but look forward to having them visit me next year!
